The Canada’s Oceans interactive map was developed to expand the public’s understanding of the complex Ocean Planning process in Canada that is tasked to coordinate the different uses and stakeholders of our marine environment, as well as grow engagement and participation.
Canada is surrounded by the Pacific, Arctic and Atlantic Oceans, with each one having it’s unique wildlife, human uses and challenges. Case studies provided for different feature regions are giving more specific insight and show relevant layers and multi-media slideshows consisting of images, videos or small infographics.
The self-exploratory map component enables users to explore many different layers of relevance for each region and create custom layers. Custom maps can be shared and printed in high resolution for further use.
An infographic was created to further help the understanding of the Ocean Planning process.
A simplified version of the interactive map was recently showcased at the Blue whale exhibition at the Royal Ontario Museum.
