The Lancaster Sound interactive map was created to raise awareness about this integral part of the arctic which is home to the Inuit and a variety of wildlife. It informs about the different uses and challenges the area is facing and shows the different proposals for establishing a National Marine Conservation Area. To increase its impact all content has been made available in English, French and Inuktitut.
The site is structured in three main components:
The story map provides an introduction to the Lancaster Sound region and highlights some of the key uses and challenges by introducing map layers and supporting infographics.
The gallery effectively illustrates the unique landscape, its people and wildlife. All photos and videos have been geo-referenced and can be explored by category and media type.
The self-exploratory map component enables users to explore many different layers of relevance and create custom layers. Custom maps can be shared and printed in high resolution for further use.
